Practices

Craft is orthopraxic, not orthodoxic - so we start by doing, as a way of learning.

It is very difficult to teach anything worth knowing about magic, the Land or the Powers from a book - these are sensory experiences. So I wish to stress from the outset: you have to do the exercises to get anywhere. It’s easy to respond to simple tasks with “hmmm ok, what’s in the next booklet”, and find yourself reading the course instead of practicing it. Fencraft is a way of walking; it is lived.

You can follow this course at whatever pace you please: one chapter per week minimum, up to one chapter per month maximum. (But don’t get bored & give up. I promise, the robes are coming!)

Overall advice: do not just read. Make sure you do the activities. But don't dwell too long. As they all interconnect, it is better to do the whole course brisky then repeat it, than staying on one topic. Depth comes with time.

Advanced Walking

As stated above, the best thing to do with beginner courses is not to dwell on any one point, but grasp the essential parts and move on to the next one - for it is in how all these pieces work together that it comes to life. Once you have studied Walking, Reading and Disconnection for the first time - and likely gone off to study other things as a second course - you can return and think about learning to Walk a second time.

This course is short on information but lengthy on practice, and can be pursued to any depth you desire - including ways to specialise.
