Reading Work
Read
- The chapter on Walking
- Extension: The Reading, Commonplace and Music for Reading
Get
- A Commonplace Book
- A Reading List
Do
- CONTINUE YOUR WALKING PRACTICE
- Make an initial Reading List. Don’t overdo it: identify 3 to 5 texts you are interested in, either new texts or old favourites.
- Put one text on your calendar as your current Reading, & begin reading it.
- Reread the Reading booklet throughout the week. Note any ideas.
- Optional: Add to your Commonplace Book if you wish
- Optional: You may wish to set yourself a challenge for how many things you can Read this year. Set an achievable goal!
- Extension: When you revisit this module, you may wish to timetable in different Reading activities - such as writing, tinkering, teaching or making music. Initially, however, the focus of your Reading time should be consuming artworks. If you wish to put additional time in at this stage, you may include other kinds of Reading
Reflect
- What is your favourite myths or fantasy fiction? What did you love as a child? What lore and stories first made you want to become a Pagan?
- 2The Practices teach our values. What lessons and values have you discovered in Reading?
Test
Attempt by memory, then look up if you found remembering it difficult. If you like writing, answer in your own words in your Mirror Book or blog. You have passed the test when you can answer these questions by memory (unless memory is a particular challenge for you, in which case set a test you can meet)
- What is Reading?
- Make a list of keywords associated with the Lunar
- List 3 ways of “Reading” which don’t include a novel
- What are the purpose(s) of Reading?
Pass Out
As an absolute minimum, you must have a list of things you intend to Read (however short!), made a plan or commitment for regularly doing it, and have begun on one item. Then you may move on to the next chapter: On Disconnection.
If you are struggling to find time for your Reading, but you are ready to take in new information; or if you prefer to take the course at a slower pace and spend a longer time on each part, you can move sideways to the Lunar chapters.
