First Pages
He used often to say there was only one Road; that it was like a great river: its springs were at every doorstep, and every path was its tributary. "It's a dangerous business, Frodo, going out of your door," he used to say. "You step into the Road, and if you don't keep your feet, there is no knowing where you might be swept off to."
By now, the website is like a wild strange forest - impassable to newcomers and impossible to navigate. Here are some of the most important areas to look at when considering if this sort of thing is your sort of thing.
Here are the most important pages to know what Fencraft teaches, and how it is distinct from other Pagan traditions.
- Our primary Power/way of understanding the world: The Landweird
- The sorts of spirits and Powers Fencraft is pointed towards encountering
- An introduction to the correspondence system used in Fencraft
Anyone who acknowledges the Landweird and uses this symbol system can be said to be doing Fencraft.
Then, over this layer, people's personal practice can be very different from one another - from witches and priests, to hillside ramblers and merry woodland fellows.
Explore the Library
We believe that creating a Pagan world and culture is essential to belief, work and happiness - and makes a low-effort Paganism possible, for those who know the strange truths within the earth but do not want to be a full-time magical-religio-ritual specialist.
By exploring the library, you can enter into that strangness and see with us.
- READ the Commonplace Book of quotations
- LISTEN to our weekly sonic broadcast, Radio Astercote - show archive and mixtape collection
- SEE the collage collection of images
Do Something
If you prefer to learn by doing, try our Basic Practice course. It is not a committment and requires no particular belief - but puts you in the kinds of situations and habits where you might encounter the Landweird.
It is ideal for new pagans, as you can graduate out of it in many different directions (including into different paths). For current pagans, it highlights the particular ways we think and work.
The Practices section has a selection of helpful tools - including
- a dashboard to set as your browser home-page or check at idle moments
- prompt cards for doing something to keep you in touch with the spiritual today
- a found oracle deck for seeking wisdom
Exploring the Site
You can also look through the site by topic:
- Landcraft - Pages introducing our symbol system
- Landmarks - Information about the main symbols in the system
- Journeys - Explore the system expressed as a map of places
- Spirits - Explore the system expressed as encounters with people and powers
- Calendar - Follow the tides of the year & see ritual scripts
And there are a handful of utility pages:
- Changelog - check here for new updates every time you visit
- Permissions - copyright & the like
- Links & Credits - programs used and interesting places to go
