The Triangle in the Circle
Summer 2022
Landcraft seems to be drawn from the power in the light.
The triangle is the colours of light-energy. The three points are the extremes of Solar, Lunar and Stellar. In between, are the ways they mix: as Brilliance, Dapple and Desaturation.
These forces of light seems to have an interrelationship with the physical elements in the landscape. Without this energy, the landscape is inert. The circle shows the Landscape elements, corresponding to the way the light is affecting them. Under the Solar we have a rich, but organic green - like a green cloak. Moving anti-clockwise, we have 'warm' greens for the Landscape becoming gradually darker and bluer, as we move from the golden woodland edge, through the wildwood to the deep wood, to the Fen. Here, earth and water meet in darkness.
Moving clockwise from the Solar, in a 'cold' direction, we have increasingly pale greens (adding white) until there is the meeting of Land and Sky. We call this state Hillside. From there, we encounter the pale sky of spring, the deep blue night sky, the desaturating blues and greys of February and ice and then the threatening grey of overcast weather; which has a relationship in the storm to the sea, from the shallows of the sea downwards into the dark. Again, the sea ultimately meets the seabed earth in darkness.
Note: the absence of fire. Light is the animating principle, and it can be warm or cold, but it is not exactly fire. Other diagrams do show more clearly where the influence of fire burns brightest, and there is likely a diagram very like this one with fire as a third circle. The valknut is an ancient viking symbol comprised of three interlocking triangles which has been appropriated by white nationalist types and while I don't believe in letting fascists have history & support my friend who has made a valiant attempt to claim it back, one still must be mindful about who your symbology is communicating a sense of welcome to. So I'm sitting on my urge to resolve this problem by whipping up three triangles.
Note also: this is the 'root' of the elements. Elements can be aspected. By which I mean, we assume that the sky above the sea is inherently LunStellish. But it can be encountered under a Solar aspect, a SolLun one, and so forth, which modifies its qualities.
