Pagan Practice Planner

If we say Paganism is orthopraxic - more about doing the right thing than believing the right thing - then structuring and motivating our doing is of great importance.

The Practice Planner is a webpage where you can log, track, and download your goals and accomplishments.

Setting the Habit

Pick a time once a week - once every two weeks - or whatever period seems best to you. Put an alarm in your phone, or note in your paper planner.

The record is a mix of questions about what you intend to do, notes to remind you of what you have planned, and to record what you have done and seen. It can be used both to motivate work going forwards, and create a record to look back on.

Have a calendar, timetable or phone calendar on hand as you do this. Any commitments or plans, put them in at a fixed time as you make them.

Using the Records

Once you have downloaded the record to your computer, move it to a folder containing all your records. Double click on it to view it in your web browser.

If you download this file and place it in the same folder, it will make the record attractive to look at. You can edit it to change the appearance.

Using a two-pane view in your File Explorer allows you to browse by date and see each page immediately.

If you download a code editing program - like Notepad++ or VSCodium, you can search the contents of every file within a folder - for example, to find out what you did every Lammas for the last six years, or to see if a spirit has emerged for you before.

Writing up your Record

Here is the process for using the planner:

  1. FIRST click reset to blank, removing all existing data
  2. NEXT, once you have filled it in, click save data
  3. FINALLY, click download data to save the record to your hard drive

Reset to Blank

All text currently input AND all text saved to the browser memory is deleted. It cannot be restored, so only click it if you're sure you've downloaded all the data you want.

Input text may not vanish straight away, if saved by your browser. Refresh the page with Ctrl+F5 to reset it.

Save Data

Input text is saved to LocalStorage in your browser - a bit like a cookie. It never leaves your computer. It stays on the computer you filled it in on - if you fill it in on your laptop, you cannot check what you wrote on your mobile phone, and vice versa.

Text is not automatically saved as you type, but you can click save however many times you like while you fill in the record if you're anxious that way.

It is very important to note that if you clear cookies and site data in your browser settings, you will delete any data saved through the webpage.

Download Data

Your record is downloaded as a html file, which can be opened in your web browser.

This means the data is permanently yours - ensure you back it up carefully, print it out, or both, to ensure your records are safe long-term. No data is saved by me or this website at any time

Show/hide categories

The Planner has many different categories for what you can track - from religion, to spells, to festival days, to dreaming. It's probably more than you need, so uncheck any you do not want to use and it will vanish, leaving a more uncluttered view.

Categories can be added or removed at any time. Removing a category does not delete data currently stored in it.

Only categories which are visible when the planner is downloaded will be downloaded.

New categories may be added on request!

Tides and Times

You can optionally display links to other websites displaying for your local area:

  • The Weather
  • Sunrise and sunset
  • Moon phases
  • 'Space Weather' - astronomy, such as meteor showers and visible planets

Therefore when you do your weekly check-in, you can look at what's happening in the sky and incorporate it into your thinking.

In the settings, paste in one link for each of these websites. Ensure it is the whole URL.
